About the Sienna
The Toyota Sienna is Toyota's minivan for the North American market, sold in the US continuously since the 1998 model year. It competes with the Honda Odyssey, Chrysler Pacifica, and Kia Carnival, offering three rows of seating for seven or eight passengers, dual sliding doors, and family-focused practicality. Over four generations it has grown from a compact, Camry-based van into a full-size minivan, and since the 2021 model year it has been sold exclusively as a hybrid.
The Sienna's reputation rests on reliability, low running costs, and strong resale value, which makes it a frequent pick for families planning long-term ownership. It has also long stood out for offering all-wheel drive, available since 2004, a rarity among minivans for most of that period. Typical buyers are families needing three usable rows and cargo flexibility, along with shoppers who want minivan practicality with hybrid fuel economy in newer model years.
The 2013 model: The third generation brought sharper styling, an available SE sport trim, and a briefly offered 2.7-liter four-cylinder base engine (2011-2012) alongside the mainstay 3.5-liter V6; optional AWD continued as a Sienna exclusive in the segment. A 2015 refresh updated the structure and interior, and for 2017 a direct-injected 3.5-liter V6 producing 296 hp arrived paired with an eight-speed automatic. This generation had an unusually long ten-year run.
