About the Tundra

The Toyota Tundra is Toyota's full-size pickup truck, sold in the US since the 2000 model year as the company's first serious entry against the Ford F-150, Chevrolet Silverado, and Ram 1500. Built in the United States throughout its run — first in Princeton, Indiana, and since the second generation in San Antonio, Texas — it has evolved from a smaller-than-domestic-rivals truck into a fully competitive full-size pickup with modern turbocharged and hybrid powertrains.

The Tundra has a long-standing reputation for reliability, durability, and strong resale value, which makes used examples popular even at high mileages. It appeals to buyers who want full-size capability for towing, hauling, and off-road use but prioritize dependability over having the highest tow ratings in the class. Trim ranges have spanned work-oriented models through off-road TRD Pro versions and, in the current generation, the luxury-focused Capstone.

The 2026 model: Fully redesigned on the TNGA-F body-on-frame platform shared with the Sequoia and Land Cruiser, the current Tundra dropped V8s entirely in favor of a twin-turbo 3.4L V6 (badged i-FORCE) and an i-FORCE MAX hybrid version, both paired with a 10-speed automatic. The rear suspension switched from leaf springs to a coil-spring multilink setup, improving ride quality, and maximum towing rose to about 12,000 pounds when properly equipped. Cab choices are Double Cab and CrewMax (no regular cab), tech was modernized with a large available touchscreen, and the lineup added the luxury Capstone trim.

  • Full-size pickup with rear-wheel drive standard and four-wheel drive available across all generations
  • Cab styles have included regular cab, extended Access Cab/Double Cab, and the roomy CrewMax; most configurations seat five to six
  • Powertrains evolved from V6 and V8 gasoline engines (including the well-known 5.7L i-FORCE V8) to today's twin-turbo 3.4L V6 and i-FORCE MAX hybrid
  • Current generation tows up to roughly 12,000 pounds when properly equipped
  • Assembled in the US: Princeton, Indiana (first generation) and San Antonio, Texas (second and third generations)
  • Known for long-term reliability and strong resale value
